Common Law

Many years ago I wrote a monthly newsletter called The Common Law of Real Estate.  It was designed to educate interested parties in the basics of various aspects of real estate law.  I also wrote two books that were self-published.  The first was How To Do Your Own Divorce In Indiana and the second was The Legal Rights of Unmarried Couples.  The first was distributed for a number of years, primarily to libraries and organizations, as a self help book.  The second was generated because of a famous dispute in California between a well known celebrity and his live in girlfriend.  Although interesting at the time it did not have staying power because the issue was addressed quickly by the courts and resolved for the most part.  I should add that I co-authored that book with another attorney, Terry English.

I have always enjoyed writing and speaking and hoped at one point to return to informational articles about the law.  Common Law appeals to me because I believe that common sense should be the benchmark of our laws and how they affect us on a daily basis.  Therefore, I intend to write a number of articles and include them as a blog in this portion of my web page.  I just launched this website at the end of October so it will take me a while to develop the content.  Once articles are available you need to know that they are not intended as legal advice.  They are merely my observations and are not intended to address any legal issues that you may have in your life.  Everyone's life is different as are everyone's problems.  An attorney cannot provide legal advice unless he or she establishes a relationship with a client and knows all of the facts pertaining to that specific issue.  This blog is intended to be informational and hopefully entertaining at times.  Is not intended to replace the observations and opinions that you need to obtain from a qualified professional to make decisions affecting your life.  Having said that I hope you enjoy the proffered content as it becomes available.
